On May 8th, 2009, Scott Umscheid entered his first KCBS BBQ competition in his home town of Platte City, MO. With a team of his brother-in law-Josh Hulett, Josh's Dad Roger Hulett, and a great friend of the family, Tyler Fadler. It was during the 14th annual Platte City BBQ cook off held at the famous Basswood Resort. Scott's responsibility was chicken, so he did some research and several practice cooks before turning in his chicken box, Saturday, May 9th at noon. Fast forward to our first ever results ceremony, a few hours later, and we probably had 30 plus people there to see what the judges thought about our first ever BBQ. Chicken results come first and the KCBS rep started with #10, then #9 and so forth all the way down to #2 and we still hadn’t heard our team’s name called.
Who would have known that some of the best BBQ in KC is right next to the airport? WOW! Absolutely delicious. Picnic tables outside and tables inside with easy and friendly counter service. The burnt ends rivaled the best I've had in KC...
THIS PLACE WAS INCREDIBLE! We stopped here as we were leaving the KC airport and it was nothing short of amazing! The staff was so friendly and explained the menu so well. Our group got breakfast as well as BBQ! I am not exaggerating when I say their pancakes were the best I have ever had in my 23 years on earth...
So glad I found this Barbecue! KC BBQ is so good. This is short ride from the airport and provides great service for eat in or take away. Ambiance is blue collar, working people, breakfast and lunch. Good food for good people who keep the USA moving.
I had heard this place was good and I called in a take out order of 2 different tacos. I ordered the brisket and a shrimp taco. They were both wonderful and I can see why this place stays busy and full. A hidden gem.
So much care is put into every item they offer, even the sides. We got the sampler platter for two and were wowed. The smoked turkey is moist and tender, the ribs meaty and flavorful, and the pulled pork is top-notch. My friend, who doesn't usually like baked beans, was blown away by this sweet version.
